Vol. 100 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Flour Control.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state whether the strict control of profits in the flour milling industry, which he operates, as stated by him in Dáil Éireann on the 30th January, 1946, covers and includes control of the various items making up the cost of production and distribution of flour; whether, in particular, the control covers charges relating to wear and tear or depreciation of plant, machinery and buildings and the remuneration of directors, partners or proprietors of firms engaged in flour milling in Éire.

The accounts of the individual flour millers are examined in my Department and only normal expenses of production and distribution are allowed. Wear and tear or depreciation of plant, machinery and buildings is not permitted to be charged but an agreed sum is allowed to the industry as a whole to cover this item. Control is exercised over the amount which may be charged in respect of remuneration of directors, partners or proprietors of firms engaged in the industry.
