Vol. 101 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Whiskey Production.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state, in respect of the last date for which the information is available (a) the total quantity, in terms of proof gallons, of whiskey in bond; (b) the number of gallons five years old and under; (c) the number of gallons five years old and under seven years; (d) the number of gallons seven years old and under ten years; and (e) the number of gallons ten years old and upwards.

Information is not available in the form desired by the Deputy. The quantity of home-made potable spirits in bonded warehouses on the 31st March, 1946, was 8,750,005 proof gallons, of which 5,619,056 proof gallons were under five years old and 3,130,949 proof gallons were five years old and over.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state, in respect of each of the years 1939 to 1945, inclusive, the quantity of whiskey distilled; the quantity placed in bond; and the quantity withdrawn from bond.

The particulars required are not readily available and it would be much more convenient to furnish them in relation to financial years. This in itself will take some considerable time and will, I hope, meet the Deputy's requirements. The Deputy is requested to repeat the question at the end of four weeks.
