Vol. 101 No. 16

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Old Age Pensions: Reciprocity Arrangements.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state whether any discussions are proceeding with the British Government concerning reciprocity in the matter of the payment of old age pensions to the citizens of one country who may desire to reside in the territory of the other; and, if so, whether it is likely that an early agreement will be reached.

The answer to the first part of the question is in the negative and the second part does not therefore arise.

Will the Minister say whether he proposes to initiate any discussions in this matter which, if brought to a successful conclusion, might have beneficial effects on some of our citizens?

That is a different matter.

I know it is; that is why I am asking the question.

It does not arise out of the Deputy's question. The Deputy asked me if any discussions were proceeding and I have said that there are not.

Will the Minister say how his mind is moving, bearing in mind that the position affects our citizens? Has he any views on the matter?
