Vol. 101 No. 17

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Parcels Service to Germany.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware that certain persons who recently desired to send much needed food parcels to relatives and married connections in Germany had the parcels returned to them by his Department with a notification that there was no parcel post facilities available to Germany; if he has inquired into the causes of the interruption of this service; and if he will make further representations in the matter so that the parcel post from this country to central Europe may be restored.

Parcel post services to and from Germany were suspended on the outbreak of war in 1939. Owing, it is understood, to inadequacy of transport facilities they still remain suspended and in the circumstances no useful purpose would be served by representations from this administration for restoration at the present stage.

The public will be promptly advised when the situation in Germany and other European countries similarly affected permits the resumption of any of the postal services still in abeyance.
