Vol. 102 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Car Parking.

asked the Minister for Justice if he is aware of the serious inconvenience caused to commercial travellers by the operation of the 20-minute time limit on car parking in Dublin City; and if he will have this time limit extended.

This matter is governed by by-laws made by the Commissioner of the Gárda Síochána with the consent of the Minister for Local Government and Public Health and after consultation with the local authority under Section 150 of the Road Traffic Act, 1933. As Minister for Justice, I have really no functions in the matter. I understand, however, that the Gárda officers who are familiar with traffic problems in Dublin do not consider it practicable to grant any special privileges to commercial travellers as regards the parking of cars.

Will the Minister consider making representations both to the Commissioner of the Gárda and the Department of Local Government with a view to extending the time limit in general from 20 minutes to 30 minutes?

Mr. Boland

I will draw attention to that.
