Vol. 102 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Trade Union Tribunal.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state: (i) the total sum paid by way of salaries, fees and allowances to the chairman, the registrar and other members and officials of the Trade Union Tribunal, appointed under Part III of the Trade Union Act, 1941; (ii) the total expenses of the tribunal to date including the payments to the chairman and other members and officials; (iii) the number of occasions on which the tribunal sat; (iv) the number of applications for sole determinations presented to the tribunal; (v) the number of such applications which were granted, the names of the unions making these applications and the names of those resisting them; and (vi) the expenditure on law costs, including a provision for costs not finally ascertained, arising out of the activities of the tribunal.

As the reply is in the form of a tabular statement I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to circulate it with the Official Reports.

The statement is as follows:—(i) The total sum paid by way of salaries, fees and allowances to the chairman, the registrar and other members and officials of the Trade Union Tribunal is £282 for the period that the tribunal was in operation; (ii) the other expenses of the tribunal, such as the cost of advertisements, etc., were borne as part of the ordinary expenditure of the Department, and it would not be possible to segregate the figures for the tribunal without an expenditure of time which would not be justified; (iii) the tribunal sat on 25 occasions; (iv) 12 applications were made to the tribunal for sole determinations; (v) the following are particulars of the applications:—
