Vol. 102 No. 11

Complaint by a Deputy.

Before we proceed with the business as outlined by the Tánaiste, I would like to draw the attention of the Chair to a matter which I believe is of very great importance. I made a speech in this House yesterday and, in the course of that speech, I was interrupted by Deputy Killilea. I suitably replied to the Deputy and I asked him not to make any ignorant interruptions. Later in the day I would have been assaulted by Deputy Killilea if it were not for Captain Byrne.

The Deputy has a personal explanation to make about something. What does he want the Chair to do?

I should like to know from the Chair if Deputies cannot present their case in Parliament without being threatened or assaulted or having violence used against them by other Deputies.

I did not hear of any violence being used.

Deputy Killilea used very serious threats—and the Captain of the Guard can vouch for that—in the precints of the House yesterday.

The Deputy should have come to me about that. He must not raise it now.

Will the Chair promise to look into the matter?

The Deputy should see me about it.

Deputy Killilea does not deny it.

I do not deny it.

I am entitled to some protection from the Chair.

The Deputy should see me about it later.

I thank the Ceann Comhairle for his promise to have the matter investigated.
