Vol. 103 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Amendment of Workmen's Compensation Act.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if it is proposed to amend the Workmen's Compensation Act; and if so, if he will outline the provisions of the proposed amendments.

I have under consideration certain representations and suggestions about the Workmen's Compensation Act of 1934, which appear to indicate the desirability of amending the Act. It is unlikely, however, that legislation amending the Act will be introduced in the near future. I am unable, at present, to give any outline of the provisions which may be proposed in such amendment.

Bearing in mind the low maximum of workmen's compensation at present payable, would the Minister suggest to his colleague, the Minister for Industry and Commerce, the desirability of issuing a further Emergency Powers Order in the meantime, so that the rate of compensation may be stepped up to the present low maximum of 37/6 per week?
