Vol. 103 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Flooding in North Kerry.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware of the considerable damage to land and crops which is arising in North Kerry owing to flooding caused by the breaking down of river embankments; further, that in some cases losses up to £500 have been suffered; if he will state if it is the intention of the Land Commission to see that the necessary repairs are carried out promptly; and also whether some scheme will be introduced to compensate persons for losses sustained from this cause.

I have been informed of the regrettable damage to which the Deputy's question refers and the Land Commission have sanctioned considerable grants for the repair of breached embankments protecting several estates affected. This work will be expedited as much as possible.

There is no fund available to my Department for the payment of compensation for losses caused by flooding.
