Vol. 103 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Supply of Kerosene in Dunmanway Area.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that many country shops in the Dunmanway, Timoleague and other districts are still without any allocation of kerosene for domestic purposes for the months of August, September and October; that these shopkeepers and their customers are greatly inconvenienced and upset by the unfair manner in which they have been treated; and if he will take immediate steps to ensure that supplies are delivered without further delay.

I am not aware that the position is as stated by the Deputy. Whilst some outstanding October allocations are in course of delivery, I understand that supplies for August and September have been delivered in full. I am having the matter discussed with the oil distributing companies, with a view to eliminating delay in distribution so far as this can be achieved.

I have received several complaints since I put down that question. The position is bad over the greater part of West Cork; a great many people have not got their supplies of kerosene for September or October. In remote districts people have to do a great deal of work with artificial light, and I do not suppose the Minister intends that a man should milk a cow in the dark.
