Vol. 103 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Use of Electricity for Signs.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is prepared, in order to conserve the supply of electric current for essential requirements, to withdraw the permission granted for lighting electric signs and advertisements.

The relevant Article of Emergency Powers (Control of Lights) Order having been revoked, there is no statutory control over the supply of electricity for the lighting of signs and advertisements, which is now a matter within the discretion of the Electricity Supply Board. I understand that the board, having regard to the fact that the relatively small quantity of current involved is used almost entirely outside the hours of peak demand, do not consider restrictive measures necessary during the winter months.
