Vol. 104 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Price of Turf.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the controlled price, per hundredweight, for turf; if he is aware that merchants charge prices in excess of the fixed price on the grounds that they incur charges for the haulage and delivery of the turf; and if he will state how he proposes to deal with such profiteering, which operates particularly against the poor, who are unable to meet the extra charges.

The price fixed by Order for turf in the non-turf area is a price calculated at the rate of 54/- per ton. There is no flat price fixed for turf in the turf area.

If the Deputy has information of cases of merchants charging prices in excess of the fixed maximum price, he should furnish the information to my Department, when proceedings will be instituted.

Will the Minister say whether the price fixed is in respect of wet turf or dry turf?
