Vol. 104 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Blacksmiths' Coal.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that blacksmiths in West Clare generally, find it impossible to work with the coal at present available for them; and whether, in view of the importance of their work in connection with the spring farm work, he can take any steps to see that suitable coal will be made available for them.

Blacksmiths in County Clare are not in any worse position in regard to the quality of coal available for use in their forges than those in any other part of the country. The importance of their work in connection with spring farm work is fully appreciated, but, as I have stated on many previous occasions, special smith's coal is unobtainable and blacksmiths must, therefore, adapt themselves to the use of such coal as is available.
