Vol. 104 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Relief Supplies to Europe.

asked the Minister for External Affairs if he is satisfied that all the relief supplies sent from this country to Europe have reached necessitous persons; and if not, if he will take steps to ensure that supplies are only made available to countries in Europe in actual need.

I have no information of any kind which would suggest that the relief supplies sent from this country to Europe have reached other than necessitous persons. On the contrary, I have much evidence in the way of reports, letters and public statements which suggests that the supplies sent from here have been distributed in accordance with our intentions, and I have no reason to believe that, to achieve this result, steps other than those actually being taken are called for.

Have all the supplies which were sent to the Continent been sent through the International Red Cross?

On a previous occasion I indicated definitely the manner in which these supplies were allocated. If the Deputy wants to repeat the question I can give him exact details.

Can the Taoiseach say if during the 1945-46 period we sent a consignment of sugar to the Yugoslav Government?

I could not give details without getting notice.
