Vol. 104 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Position of Deportee.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state whether a person, recently deported from Éire, was permitted to take a considerable sum in sterling out of the country; and whether all claims of the Revenue Commissioners on his property were satisfied before his deportation.

The answer to the first part of the question is in the negative. As regards the second part of the question, it would in any event be contrary to all precedent and inconsistent with the secrecy that governs the assessment of taxation to afford any information in regard to the taxation affairs of any particular individual.

Is it not a fact that a Mr. Sigal took a considerable sum in sterling out of the country and will the Minister make representations to the Revenue Commissioners to see if this man had his property tax paid? I understand it was not paid.

The Deputy should leave these things to the Revenue Commissioners.

It is only right that Mr. Sigal should be made pay when an Irish citizen is made pay.
