Vol. 104 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rations for Agricultural Workers.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state whether he has reconsidered the problem that arises for farmers in providing meals for additional workers specially employed on (a) turf cutting, (b) threshing work, and (c) special spring agricultural work; and if he proposes to make arrangements by which, in special circumstances, they may be supplied with an additional ration of flour or bread.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will consider the claims of agricultural workers who are living long distances from their places of employment and who are not boarded in their employers' houses, for an increase in their present ration of flour.

I propose to take Questions No. 18 and No. 19 together. I am giving consideration to the possibility of granting extra allowances of flour and bread to well-defined classes of farm workers the nature of whose work and employment justifies such a concession. The overriding consideration, however, is the resulting demand and the limited supplies of wheat available.
