Vol. 104 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Price of Wood Blocks.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that the price of wood blocks for firewood in Newcastle forest, Ballymahon, County Longford, has been increased from 30/- a ton to 50/- a ton; and if so, whether he has given instructions to the forester to make such increase.

Mr. Boland

The Deputy's information is not quite accurate, though a general increase in the price of firewood in State forests has recently been authorised. Firewood from the Department's forests is not sold by the ton but by the cord, the weight of which may run up to two tons. The price at Ballymahon has been raised from 60/- to 80/- per cord, a price which compares very favourably with general price levels.
