Vol. 104 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Purchase of Cereals in America.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state what has been the result of the mission, to the United States and Canada, of representatives of Grain Importers, Limited, for the purpose of seeking additional supplies of cereals.

From preliminary reports received I have little doubt but that the discussions which the representatives of Grain Importers, Limited, had with millers and exporters and the friendly contacts made will contribute over the coming months to the easement of our grain supply difficulties. I am stating, in reply to another question to-day, the purchases of wheat and flour made in North America recently.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state what is the present position regarding the efforts that have been made to procure wheat in the United States of America and Canada.

Allocations of 8,700 tons of flour and 9,000 tons of wheat have been made by the United States Government to this country and arrangements have been made to ship these supplies. 3,400 tons of flour have been purchased in Canada. Efforts to obtain further supplies of wheat or flour from North America are being continued.
