Vol. 104 No. 17

Private Notice Question. - Spring Agricultural Work.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will make a statement on the present serious position of the spring agricultural work and the steps which can and should be taken by way of emergency action on the part of the Government, the local authorities and all sections of the community in a position to offer assistance so that no available help or encouragement will be withheld from the agricultural community in their present difficult and essential work upon which this year's harvest will depend.

I have conveyed to the Chief Whip my intention to make such a statement around 7 o'clock. I take it there will be agreement to give me time to reply to any points raised in the course of the discussion which will follow?

The adjournment of the House will be moved at 7 o'clock?

"That the House do now adjourn," will be moved at 7 p.m.

And the Minister will make a statement then. How long will the Minister require to reply?

I should like half an hour.

The Minister will reply at 10 o'clock.

I take it that, as the Minister will be dealing with the present situation, we may take the opportunity of discussing the motion in connection with the tillage drive?

If any points in the motion are relevant to the discussion, certainly, but it is a matter of giving Government time. "That the House do now adjourn" will be the motion, so that there will be no vote.
