Vol. 105 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Tipperary Dispensary.

asked the Minister for Health whether he is aware that residents in the Garrangibbon Dispensary District. County Tipperary, are very seriously inconvenienced through the lack of a resident dispensary doctor; that the building of a doctor's residence was sanctioned by the county council some time ago; and if he will take steps to see that everything is done to expedite the building of this residence which is urgently required, particularly as no telephone service exists in the area.

The answer to the first part of the question is in the negative. No proposal for the provision of a residence for the dispensary medical officer has been submitted to my Department. In view of the contemplated national survey of dispensary districts which may result in alterations to the existing boundaries of dispensary districts, I would not deem it advisable at this stage to press the county council to proceed with the erection of a medical officer's residence. I understand that there are arrangements for communicating with the dispensary medical officer by telephone from various parts of the dispensary area.
