Written Answer. - Unemployment Assistance Expenditure.

Mr. Corish

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will state, in respect of each of the last five years: (a) the total sums charged against (i) the Unemployment Insurance Fund, and (ii) the Unemployment Assistance Vote, in respect of unemployment assistance benefits; (b) the Appropriations-in-Aid, (i) transferred from the Unemployment Fund, and (ii) contributed by the local authorities, towards the cost of providing unemployment assistance; and (c) the net sum contributed from Central Government funds in respect of unemployment assistance benefits.

I am circulating with the Official Report a statement showing for each of the five years ending 31st March, 1946, the total payments of unemployment assistance against the Vote for that year, the receipts from local authorities and from the Unemployment Fund which were appropriated in aid of the Vote, and the consequent net charge to the Central Fund.
