Ceisteanna—Questions Oral Answers - Afforestation.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state, in respect of each of the last five years; (a) the number of acres acquired for afforestation; (b) the area planted; and (c) the average cost of the land, plants, etc., and work done per acre planted.

The reply to the first and second parts of the question is in the form of a tabular statement which will be circulated in the Official Report.

As regards the third part, statistics in the precise form requested are not available. I can inform the Deputy, however, that during the past five years the cost of land acquired for afforestation averaged £2 10s. 0d. per acre, the cost of plants averaged £3 16s. 0d. per acre and the cost of labour on the production of new forests averaged £13 3s. 6d. per acre.
