Government borrowing in the form of National Loans, Savings Certificates and Ways and Means Advances and for Telephone Capital Expenditure amounted at 31st March, 1947, to £67,359,019. Further capital liabilities, amounting to £28,818,000, existed at that date in respect of the annuity under the Damage to Property (Compensation) (Amendment) Act, 1926, the State contributions to land purchase under the Land Acts, 1923-1939, and the State contributions towards the annual loan charges of local authorities under the Housing (Finance and Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 1932.
