Vol. 105 No. 16

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Supplementary Bread Ration.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he has received applications for supplementary bread rations from persons employed at the Lullymore Briquette Factory, County Kildare, who reside more than two miles from their place of employment; and whether supplementary rations have been granted in respect of such applications.

I have received applications for supplementary bread rations from persons employed at the Lullymore Briquette Factory. I have granted extra rations to persons who were engaged at the time of their applications in categories of employment to which the supplemental scheme then applied, which did not include the production of turf. Some applications from workers at Lullymore were accordingly refused. I am now prepared to reconsider these cases and treat them on the same basis as turf workers, but it is necessary that the applications should be renewed.

Do I take it that all these persons employed at Lullymore who are working more than two miles from their homes will be given a supplementary bread ration?

Those engaged in turf production. At the time the applications were made turf workers were not entitled to supplementary rations. Since they have become entitled to supplementary rations, turf workers at Lullymore are entitled to those rations the same as any other turf workers.

Is it necessary to make fresh application?

They will have to apply again, yes.
