Written Answers. - State-owned or Controlled Companies.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state, in respect of the period from 23rd October, 1946, to date: (i) the name of each company and corporation set up under the Companies Acts or by statute, in which the State has a financial interest by direct subvention, share subscription, guarantee or otherwise; (ii) whether any, and if so, what Minister, Department of State, or other State-controlled company has any rights to appoint the directors of each such company, and if so, what are such rights; and (iii) the name, date of appointment and remuneration of each member of each such board or controlling body, and whether any such members are entitled to carry on other gainful activities; and further, if he will give, in respect of those State-owned or controlled companies and corporations which were in existence prior to 23rd October, 1946, details of any variations or changes under the foregoing headings made subsequent to that date.

The only such body established since the 23rd October last is Aerlínte Éireann, Teó., a subsidiary of Aer-Rianta, Teó. The right to appoint the directors is vested by the company's articles of association in the Minister for Industry and Commerce, after consultation with the Minister for Finance. The names, date of appointment and remuneration of the directors are as follows:—

Mr. R.C. Barton (Chairman)—£500 a year.

Mr. C.S. Andrews (Managing Director)— £2,000 a year.

Mr. A. O'Rahilly—£300 a year.

(2) CEIMICÍ, TEÓRANTA (formerly Monarchana Alcoil na h-Éireann, Teó.):

Remuneration of Directors:

Dr. G. Van der Lee (Managing Director) —£1,500 a year from 1st April, 1947.

Mr. C.S. Almond (Deputy Chairman)— £200 a year from 1st October, 1946, with a bonus of £100 for the year ended 30th September, 1946.

(3) CUMANN AN ÁRACHAIS NÁISIÚNTA AR SHLÁINTE:

Changes in personnel from 19th February, 1947:

Chairman—Mr. D.J. O'Donovan succeeded by Mr. P.J. Keady.

Trustees—Mr. P.J. Keady succeeded by Mr. P.C. Cahill and Mr. A.J. Lalor succeeded by Mr. W.J. Kavanagh.

Employers' Representatives—Mr. P.C. Cahill succeeded by Mr. P. Kavanagh.

(4) IRISH TOURIST BOARD:

Remuneration of Chairman:

Mr. J.P. O'Brien (Chairman)—£1,700 a year from 1st April, 1947.
