Vol. 105 No. 18

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Port and Docks Bridge.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state: (i) whether the Dublin Port and Docks Board have submitted plans for the building of a transporter bridge, as required by Section 8 of the Port and Docks (Bridges) Act, 1929; (ii) if so, whether he has authorised a postponement of the project for the prescribed period of three years or for any longer period; and (iii) whether, if the authorised periods for postponement of the works have now expired, he will direct the board to put them in hands at once.

I am informed that plans for a transporter bridge were submitted by the Dublin Port and Docks Board to the Department of Local Government in 1930. The period of seven years allowed for the work was extended by a further three years in an Order made by me in 1936, which was the maximum extension authorised by the Dublin Port and Docks (Bridges) Act, 1929. Application may now be made for a bridge Order under the Local Government Act, 1946, and a harbour works Order under the Harbours Act, 1946, for authority to carry out the works. I am not empowered to issue a direction in this matter to the Dublin Port and Docks Board.
