Vol. 105 No. 18

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rural Workers' Wages.

asked the Minister for Lands if he has received representations from the Federation of Rural Workers concerning increased wages rates for land and forestry workers; and whether, in the light of the recent announcement by the Agricultural Wages Board of its intention to sanction increased minimum rates of wages for farm workers, he is now prepared to sanction a substantial increase for land and forestry workers.

Representations have been received by my Department from the Federation of Rural Workers regarding increased wages for labourers employed on forestry operations. The wages of these workers are now being reviewed in the light of the increases in the minimum wages of agricultural labourers recently announced by the Agricultural Wages Board and increases in wages will be granted to the forestry labourers.

The wages of Land Commission labourers are also being reviewed in the light of the increased minimum agricultural wage rates.
