Vol. 106 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Meat Trade.

, asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will make a statement as to the cause of the dislocation of the meat trade in Dublin, during the past weeks; and if he will make the necessary arrangements to secure that meat supplies will be available at fair prices.

It is rather difficult to understand why the meat position in Dublin City over the last few weeks should have been so unsatisfactory, since the supply of fat stock on offer was in numbers approximately equal to those on offer for the same period over the last few years. The standard of cattle was, no doubt, below average. There was also probably a larger amount of provincial buying in the Dublin market than in previous years. The off-take for the parcel trade in meat was a further contributory factor in bringing about the present situation.
