Vol. 107 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - West Cork Railway Facilities.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that a number of Irish people from West Cork, returning from Great Britain, travel from Dublin on the night mail to Cork, and are unable to get a railway connection in Cork in the early hours of the morning, with the result that, owing to the difficulty of getting accommodation, they are stranded for a number of hours in Cork City; and whether he will direct Córas Iompair Éireann to attach a few passenger carriages to the morning mail train leaving Cork City for West Cork, for the convenience of such passengers.

I am informed that passengers from Great Britain normally reach Dublin in good time to catch the ordinary main line morning train from Dublin to Cork. Passenger connections for West Cork by both train and bus are available from this service.

It may be assumed that Córas Iompair Éireann will endeavour to give the best service in all areas which is possible in present conditions. I do not think it is desirable that I should give directions to the company in this regard.
