Vol. 108 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Compensation for Limerick Premises.

asked the Minister for Local Government why the sum for compensation, arising out of the acquisition of premises in Limerick some years ago, and agreed upon between the owner of the premises, Mr. P. Molloy, Cathedral Place, Limerick, and the Limerick City Manager, City Engineer and Law Agent, has not yet been paid; and if he will indicate when the matter will be concluded.

A proposal submitted in June, 1945, by the Limerick Corporation for the purchase by agreement of Mr. Molloy's premises which the corporation had been authorised to acquire under "the Palmerstown Area Compulsory Purchase Order No. 2, 1944" was not approved on the grounds that the price proposed, allowing for the value of materials to be salvaged from the premises, was excessive.

An official arbitrator has been appointed to assess compensation and I understand that he will open arbitration proceedings in the very near future.

Mr. Molloy is entitled to receive interest at the rate of 5 per cent. per annum on the amount of compensation payable under the arbitrator's award as from the date on which the corporation entered on his property.
