Vol. 108 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the causes of delay in carrying out the water and sewerage scheme at Durrow, Leix; and what steps he proposes to take to have the work commenced immediately.

A water supply scheme for Durrow was completed in 1938 and I have received no representations as to the need for extension or improvements. Plans for a sewerage scheme for Durrow were approved by me last July. Owing to difficulties in regard to the acquisition of lands required for the purpose of the scheme tenders have not yet been invited by the local authority. I understand that negotiations for the acquisition of the lands are in progress.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the present position concerning the proposed water and sewerage scheme for Newcastle and Peamount.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the present position concerning the proposed water and sewerage scheme for Rathcoole and Saggart.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take questions Nos. 8 and 9 together, and would refer the Deputy to the reply given to his question on 22nd April last in regard to the proposed water supply scheme for Rathcoole, Saggart and Newcastle. I understand that the preparation of contract documents for these schemes is nearing completion. Pending the invitation of tenders for the work approval was recently given for the placing of an order for the pipes required.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the present position concerning the proposed water and sewerage scheme for Tallaght.

I would refer the Deputy to my reply of 28th November last to his question in this matter. Definite proposals have not yet been submitted by the local authority.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the present situation concerning the proposed water and sewerage scheme for Rockbrook and Whitechurch.

I understand that the Dublin County Commissioner proposes to provide a water supply to serve the area and that preliminary investigations as to the source of supply, etc., are proceeding. No proposals have yet reached my Department.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the present position concerning the proposed water scheme for Ballyfermot.

I understand that the Dublin County Commissioner has under consideration the question of providing a water supply extension scheme for the area as part of the programme of public health works for County Dublin generally, but I have received no proposals. A number of schemes certified by the county medical officer of health as being of greater urgency will take precedence over this scheme.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the present position concerning the proposed water and sewerage scheme for Palmerstown.

I approved of the plans for a proposed sewerage scheme at Palmerstown last June. The scheme as designed is intended to connect up with the Dublin Corporation's sewer at Chapelizod, and I understand that negotiations are at present proceeding with the Dublin Corporation in regard to a drainage agreement.

There is already a water supply scheme at Palmerstown and I have received no proposals for its extension or improvement.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the present position concerning the proposed water and sewerage scheme for Ballyboden.

I approved of the plans for the sewerage scheme for Ballyboden last month. I understand that the Dublin County Commissioner hopes to be in a position to invite tenders for the work in the near future. There is already a piped water supply at Ballyboden and I have received no proposals for its extension.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is now in a position to state when a water and sewerage scheme will be provided for Dean's Grange, Foxrock and Cabinteely.

The plans for the part of this sewerage scheme in the county health district have been prepared. The section passing through Dún Laoghaire will be a joint sewer, the design of which cannot be completed until the Dún Laoghaire main drainage scheme has been approved. The Deputy is doubtless aware that the latter scheme has been the subject of a prolonged inquiry. I have recently communicated to the local authority my views on the evidence taken at that inquiry.

The water supply system in the area is under the charge of the Dublin Corporation.
