Vol. 109 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Unemployment Assistance For Fishermen.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if, in view of the decline of the mackerel fishing industry in South Kerry during the 1946 season, and this year, he is prepared to have the means assessment against the fishermen reviewed, under the Unemployment Assistance Acts, so that they will be entitled to maximum rates of unemployment assistance.

The net profits derived from fishing and other businesses constitute means for the purposes of the Unemployment Assistance Acts. In any case in which profits from business have altered the person concerned should report the facts to the nearest local office of the Department of Social Welfare for review of his weekly rate of means.
