Vol. 109 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Hospitals Commission Funds.

asked the Minister for Health if he will give particulars of the moneys now held by the Hospitals Commission; the securities in which such moneys have been invested; and the dates of such investments.

asked the Minister for Health if he will give particulars of the amounts so far made available, to the Hospitals Commission, from the Irish Hospitals Sweepstakes; and the amount which has so far been expended in: (a) providing new hospitals; (b) extending existing hospitals; and (c) grants to assist the running of existing hospitals.

I propose, with your permission, a Chinn Comhairle, to take Questions Nos. 15 and 16 together.

The Deputy would appear to be under a misapprehension in regard to the functions of the Hospitals Commission. This body is not responsible for the administration of the Hospitals Trust Fund. The fund is administered by the Hospitals Trust Board which was set up under the provisions of the Public Hospitals (Amendment) Act, 1938. All the information requested by the Deputy is not readily available in my Department. I am having it prepared and I hope to be able to supply it in about seven days.
