Vol. 109 No. 5

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take business on the Order Paper in the following order: No. 9, then Nos. 12 to 19 (with the appropriate Money Resolution) and then No. 1. The business as ordered will be interrupted at 6 p.m. to take Nos. 16, 17 and 15 in that order. It is proposed that Public Business be not interrupted for the taking of Private Deputies' Business.

Is it proposed to sit next week?

That will depend on the progress of business this week.

Could the Tánaiste say whether that is the business that has to be concluded before the adjournment?

There is the Appropriation Bill as well.

I include the Appropriation Bill in that. The Government have indicated that the business to-day will be items 12 to 19 and item No. 1 and that some new Supplementary Estimates will be introduced. Is that all the business the conclusion of which the Government expect before the adjournment?

That is correct. I take it that the Appropriation Bill will also have to be passed.

Can the Government say when they expect that business to be concluded?

We are hoping that it should be finished this week.

If necessary by sitting late?

We are prepared to discuss that with the Whips.

Assuming there is an adjournment this week, can the Government say when they propose to adjourn to?

It is proposed that the Dáil should adjourn sine die. A date to deal with amendments that may be proposed to legislation by the Seanad could not be fixed until the Seanad has concluded its work.

We can take it then that when the business down for this week is finished the Dáil will adjourn and that it will be satisfied to come back to deal with any business that may come by way of amendments from the Seanad.

In view of the unsatisfactory reply given to question No. 5 to-day, I propose to raise the subject matter of the question on the adjournment to-morrow night, or to-night if there is any likelihood that the Dáil may adjourn to-night.

I should like to give notice of my intention to raise a matter on the adjournment which I have already endeavoured to raise unsuccessfully on two previous motions for the adjournment. That is, the question of the number of evictions in Dublin and the insufficiency or apparent lack of power to stop them. I should be glad to have an opportunity to raise the question of the number of evictions in Dublin before the House adjourns.

I shall consider which question I shall take. There are two before me.

My question is for to-morrow night. If it is likely that the Dáil will sit to-morrow, we could have an adjournment debate and I take it the Government will make time available for that purpose.

The Appropriation Bill would give Deputies an opportunity of raising these matters.

Is it not proposed to discuss the Supplementary Estimates to-day?

They have been ordered for introduction to-day.
