Vol. 109 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Christmas Relief Works.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will indicate the areas in County Dublin where relief work will be carried out during the Christmas period; if he will increase the grants allowed for each area; and if he will also state whether relief schemes are arranged for the Howth and Sutton areas.

Grants for the relief of unemployment in County Dublin have been sanctioned for Balbriggan, Swords, Lusk and Crumlin areas, and it is expected that work will be in operation on all these schemes during the Christmas period. The amounts alloted for these areas represent their pro rata share of the moneys provided for the relief of unemployment in the country as a whole, and it is not proposed to increase the grants.

There is at present in progress at Howth an employment scheme designed to cater for unemployment assistance recipients living in both the Howth and Sutton areas of Dublin County Borough.
