Vol. 111 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Commodore Hotel (Cobh).

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state (a) what factors induced the Irish Tourist Board to purchase the Commodore Hotel, Cobh; (b) the year it was purchased; (c) the amount paid for it, and the amount considered necessary to restore it as a place suitable for occupation by tourists and visitors; and (d) the number of visitors and tourists who have availed of the hotel since its reconstruction.

The Commodore Hotel, Cobh, was bought by the Irish Tourist Board in order to improve facilities for visitors landing and embarking at Cobh. It was purchased by the board in 1947 for £11,000. Costs of acquisition and of small urgent repairs amounted to an additional £1,000. The further expenditure considered by the board to be necessary to reconstruct and equip the building for use as an hotel is £32,500. No such expenditure has yet been undertaken and accommodation has not yet been made available to visitors or tourists.
