Vol. 111 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Clara and Banagher Goods Transport.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that a goods train leaving Clara for Banagher is followed by a Córas Iompair Éireann lorry conveying goods that should be conveyed by the train; that Córas Iompair Éireann stipulates that no consignment of goods less than six tons can be taken by train; that a bus service also covers the same route and carries goods; and, if so, whether he is satisfied that this road transport is not run by Córas Iompair Éireann in competition with the railway to make the rail service uneconomic; and, further, if he will take steps to examine this matter and to report the result to Dáil Éireann at an early date.

I am making inquiries from Córas Iompair Éireann in regard to the matter referred to and I hope to be in a position to furnish a reply in two weeks' time if the Deputy will then repeat his question.
