Vol. 111 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Westport Quay.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware that sanction for the scheme for the repair of Westport Quay, County Mayo, has been held up in the Office of Public Works for a considerable period; and, if so, whether he will state the date the scheme was submitted by the Department of Industry and Commerce to the Office of Public Works and the reason for the delay by his Department in dealing with the matter; further if he will state when work will commence on this scheme.

I am satisfied that no undue delay has occurred in the Office of Public Works in connection with the scheme for the repair at Westport Quay. Before detailed plans and a specification for the work could be prepared it was necessary to make trial borings on the site. These borings were completed recently and it is hoped to have the working plans ready for transmission to the Department of Industry and Commerce within the next month or so. It is difficult to say when work will commence as delays may be encountered in securing essential materials.
