Vol. 111 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Mayo Holdings.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware of the large number of landowners whose holdings are valued under £10, who reside in the townlands of Ballinhoe and Bohogue, County Mayo, and if he has any plans for the relief of these people.

I am aware of the congestion in these townlands. Some relief has already been afforded by the utilisation of holdings vacated by four tenants who were migrated and I have asked the Land Commission to take whatever steps are possible to effect a further improvement in the position.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that very serious congestion exists in the townlands of Kilnock and Ranahard, Claremorris, County Mayo, and if he will state what steps have been taken to bring this congestion to an end.

I am fully aware of the congestion remaining in Kilnock townland and at Ranahard. Rearrangement schemes are necessary and will be undertaken as soon as possible. Meanwhile, proceedings are in hands for the resumption of some land at Kilnock and no opportunity will be lost of providing suitable land to facilitate the rearrangement of small holdings in these places.
