Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Nitrogenous Fertilisers.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state the quantity of nitrogenous fertilisers allocated to this country by the International Emergency Food Council for the 12 months ended June 30th, 1948; the quantity imported during that period; the quantity allocated for the 12 months to 30th June, 1949, and the sources from which it is expected to obtain supplies.

The quantity of nitrogenous fertiliser allocated to this country by the International Emergency Food Council for the 12 months ended 30th June, 1948, was 23,815 tons of sulphate of ammonia and 9,000 tons of nitrate of soda and during that period 22,050 tons of sulphate of ammonia and 6,037 tons of nitrate of soda were imported. The allocation recommended for the 12 months ending 30th June, 1949, is 28,000 tons of sulphate of ammonia and 8,000 tons of nitrate of soda. It is expected to obtain the sulphate of ammonia from Great Britain and the nitrate of soda from Chile.
