Vol. 112 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin City Boundaries.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is in a position to state (a) the extent of the proposed alteration of Dublin City boundaries; (b) what steps will be taken to protect the employment of workers now in the service of Dublin County Council in the area which will be affected, and (c) the approximate date upon which the extension of boundaries will take place.

Mr. Murphy

The Dublin Corporation has presented a petition for the extension of the city boundary so as to include within its jurisdiction lands at Donnycarney, approximately 40 acres in extent. This is the only petition at present before me.

The consideration of the petition will involve the holding of a local inquiry, at which any parties interested, including local employees, may attend and give evidence. Any extension of the boundary which it may appear proper to make will be effected by means of a provisional Order. Such an Order would become operative only from the date of its confirmation by the Oireachtas. I cannot, therefore, say at this stage whether the boundary will be extended or the date upon which any such extension will come into force.
