Vol. 112 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Acquisition of County Meath Estate.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state whether the preliminary inspection with a view to acquisition of the Rotheram Estate at Belview, Oldcastle, County Meath, has yet been undertaken by the Land Commission; and, if so, whether he can now say when this estate will be divided.

Enquiries are proceeding in regard to the lands on the Rotheram Estate at Belview, Oldcastle, County Meath, but the Land Commission are not yet in a position to state whether or when these lands will be acquired.

Can the Minister now state that short of a miracle this estate shall be divided within the next 12 months?

I do not quite get the trend of the Deputy's supplementary question. If the Deputy is a miracle worker I should be glad if he would lend a hand.

Is the Minister aware that that statement is being made on his behalf?

By a Mr. Michael Kelly of the Clann na Poblachta Party, on the instructions of Deputy Con Lehane.

That is not on behalf of a Minister.

The Minister is responsible for his own statements.

Irresponsible statements, if such were made, should be nothing new to the members who are now on the Deputy's side of the House.

The Deputy may ask questions of the Minister. The Minister is responsible for his own statements here or elsewhere, but not those of anybody else. What Deputy Con Lehane said has nothing to do with the Minister.

Except that he says what the Minister for External Affairs tells him.

That has nothing to do with the case.
