Vol. 112 No. 5

Written Answers to Questions. - Durrow Housing and Sewerage Schemes.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state (a) the present position of the housing scheme for Durrow village, Laoighis; (b) the number of houses proposed to be built by local authority, and (c) whether the acquisition of sites is in progress.

Mr. Murphy

Laoighis County Council propose to provide 15 cottages at Durrow, and are in process of acquiring the necessary sites compulsorily.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the progress being made in regard to the very necessary sewerage scheme for Durrow village, Laoighis, and if he will have the matter expedited as much as possible.

Mr. Murphy

The proposals of the Laoighis County Council for the provision of a sewerage scheme at Durrow have been approved and the county council have been carrying out negotiations for the acquisition by agreement of lands required for the execution of the scheme. These negotiations have failed and it has become necessary for the council to have recourse to the procedure for compulsory acquisition.

I am fully aware of the necessity for the scheme and everything possible will be done to expedite matters. In the case of compulsory acquisition of land the necessary legal procedure involves a public local inquiry.
