Vol. 112 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Green Belts.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware that plans for the building and the provision of houses near Dublin City or within its boundaries are obstructed by inconsistency in regard to adherence to green belt rulings by town planners; and, if so, what action he proposes to take in the matter.

Mr. Murphy

I am not aware the situation is as the Deputy suggests. As the Deputy is aware, the initial responsibility rests with the planning authority, with an appeal to me by any person aggrieved by the planning authority's decision. To date, only 11 out of 270 appeals in the county, and none in Dublin City, had specific reference to the "green belt". In each of these cases, the work proposed would conflict not only with the principle of having a "green belt" but also with at least one principle of sound planning, e.g., absence of water and sewerage services, ribbon development, defective design or lay-out, and the like. If the Deputy has any particular case in mind, however, I would be glad if he would send me details.
