Vol. 112 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Infectious Diseases Allowances.

asked the Minister for Health whether he is aware that grave hardship has been caused to persons in Drogheda and Dundalk who are eligible for allowances under the Infections Diseases (Maintenance) Regulations by the delay in dealing with their applications; and, if so, whether he will take steps to expedite the consideration of these cases; further, if he will state the date on which the allowances will be paid.

I am aware that there has been delay in the payment of allowances under these regulations to applicants resident in the County of Louth. I have urged the health authority to expedite payment and have been informed that all outstanding claims will be dealt with at an early date. The date on which the allowances will be paid must depend on the nature of the investigations which have to be undertaken in each case. Applicants who fulfil the necessary statutory conditions will be eligible to receive payment with effect from the 1st March last.
