Vol. 113 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Eradication of Pig Diseases.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will make a statement as to the steps being taken by his Department to examine cases of disease among pigs in County Longford and other districts with a view to drastic action being taken to eradicate it.

Investigational work into a pig disease of which the causal agent has not been ascertained is being carried out by veterinary officers of the Department at the present time. This presumably is the disease to which the question relates. It is not proposed to make any further statement on the matter at this stage, but the Deputy may be satisfied that the significance of the disease is fully appreciated and the resources of the Department will be employed to the fullest extent in combating it.
