Vol. 113 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Garda Supervision in County Cork.

asked the Minister for Justice whether he is aware of the necessity for extra Garda supervision at Gurranebraher, Cork; and, if so, whether he is prepared to establish a Garda station in this densely populated district.

I agree that it is desirable that there should be a Garda station in Gurranebraher. However, as there are many more urgent demands for new Garda accommodation, it has been decided to defer the erection of a new Garda station at Gurranebraher, until further progress is made in the corporation's plans for the development of the area.

Is the Minister aware that an unruly minority in that district are making things very uncomfortable and troublesome for the respectable people of the locality and, further, that now that the corporation's building is practically finished in that area the population there is at least 1,500?

The Minister is aware that there are unruly elements in many areas. I am glad that the Deputy agrees that the Gardaí can suppress them.
