Vol. 113 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tourists' Complaints.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the number of complaints received by the Irish Tourist Board during the past 12 months from visitors to hotels, and the findings of the board on such complaints.

In the 12 months prior to November, 1948, 660 complaints were received by the board in connection with registered hotels and guest houses. In 219 cases the complaints were considered well founded and appropriate action was taken with the hotel and guest house proprietors concerned. In 285 cases, the explanations furnished by the proprietors of registered premises were considered satisfactory and in the remaining 156 cases the evidence offered by the complainants could not be accepted by the board as conclusive. In approximately 100 cases of complaint about overcharges, refunds were made to the complainants by the establishments involved.
