Vol. 113 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Prices for Fish.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether the Irish Sea Fisheries Association pays higher prices for fish to fishermen on the west coast than to similar fishermen on the east coast.

The catches of members of the Irish Sea Fisheries Association on the east coast are marketed by the association on a commission basis through the Dublin Wholesale Fish Market. Catches of members landing at Galway are also marketed in this way, but landings at other points on the west coast are paid for on the basis of a fixed price list. Prices on the Dublin Wholesale Fish Market fluctuate according to supply and demand and a strict comparison between the returns received by members on the east coast and those on the west cannot be readily made.
