Vol. 113 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Control of Prices.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that the prices of non-essential goods in plentiful supply have not been substantially reduced, and if he will now consider taking positive steps towards reducing the prices of such goods which indirectly maintain the high cost of living.

I consider that the most effective action to regulate the prices of goods which are clearly of a non-essential type, and which are in plentiful supply, can be taken by the public, who, by a refusal to pay exorbitant prices for such goods, can fully safeguard their own interests.
